45th Eurovision Song Contest has been held in Stockholm, Sweden, on May 13th, 2000. The winners of the contest were the Danish duo Olsen Brothers with the song Fly On The Wings Of Love, that originally wasn't the favourite to win at all and took everyone by surprise becoming the "dark horse" of the competition.
The winning song received the highest marks, 12 points, from 8 countries, whereas Russia, which came second, only scored 4 "twelves".
By the way, Russia showed a very good result by finishing second that night. That year has become the "key year" for this country and opened the doors to success in the contest.
Having been the Eurovision debutants, Latvia showed the great result - third place, although favourites of the competition - Estonia - scored only 98 points and
finished fourth improving their result by 2 places from 1999.
Russia, Finland, Macedonia, Romania and Switzerland came back to the contest that year. But Bosnia & Herzegovina, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia
withdrew altogether.
