The anniversary, 50th Eurovision Song Contest was held in the capital of Ukraine, Kiyv, due to Ruslana win with the record-breaking anthem "Wild Dances" in the prior contest and bringing Ukraine the victory at only second appearance in the "Eurovision". The presenters of the show were chosen to be Pavlo Shylko and Maria Efrosinina, the DJ and TV-commentator. By the way, in my personal opinion, these were one of the best "Eurovision" presenters to-date. The winner of this anniversary contest was Helena Paparizou, born in Greece, who once participated in "Eurovision" as a part of the duo "Antique" and took 3rd place that year. The débutants of the contest were Moldova and Bulgaria, with Hungary returning. Lebanon intended to take part in it either but due to the country's statement that instead of the Israeli entry the commercial break would be on, Lebanon was forced to withdraw. Bulgraia was accused of plagiarism. The turkish National Final selection jury's votes were interpreted in a wrong way which led to Gülseren winning the selection and, further, representing Turkey in the "Eurovision" contest. The same happened during the Macedonian national selections. Maltese national contest that decides who goes to "Eurovision" was not been shown from the very beginning due to electricity problems in the country. 4 artists came back to the "Eurovision" stage in 2005. They were: Helena Paparizou (Greece), Constantinos Christoforou (Cyprus) - took part for the third time, Chiara (Malta) and Selma (Iceland).

So, the first victory to Greece was brought by Helena Paparizou, the big "star", who, by the way, "conquered" some European countries after the win in "Eurovision". Helena was leading since the very beginning of the votes announcement. 15 first consecutive countries-to-vote all gave her at least 2 points, 7 countries giving the highest mark - "12". Although in the middle of the voting the situation wasn't really in control of Greece but they were still leading by quite far. But to the end it became obvious that the winner was already decided. Malta, having scored the only one highest mark of twelve points from Russia, took the 2nd place in the final with breath-taking score of 193 points. To the comparison, ten highest marks of 12 points were awarded to the winner, Greece. Three - to the third placed song. By the way, it was the "drum-masterpiece" song called "Let Me Try" performed by Luminiţa Anghel & Sistem, who won the semifinal two days prior to the final of the contest. Latvia, having finished right on the line dividing the qualifiers from non-qualifiers, shockingly finished fifth in the final of the contest. This is probably the most surprising moment of "Eurovision 2005". Netherland, Iceland and Belarus losing the semifinal put the whole Europe in the shocking state as well. This once more proved that "Eurovision" is sometimes extremely unpredictable.
