46th Eurovision Song Contest 2001 took place in Copenhagen, Denmark, on May 12 due to Olsen Brothers' win in the last contest, that let Denmark host Eurovision again after the 36-year gap since the last time the contest was held in this country. Dave Berton, Tanel Padar, 2XL have become the winners of the competition with the song Everybody scoring a total of 198 points from all countries except Portugal. The second place was taken by the hosts themselves. Greece returned to the contest after 2-year break and stormed into the 3rd place. The duo Antique, who were representing Greece had had the future very successful Greek solo artist and, by the way, the winner of Eurovision 2005, Helena Paparizou.

Estonia got 9 "twelves" on that night.
The voting procedure had been a little changed, letting countries choose the way of voting - either only televotes are counted, or the 50/50 method is being implied, which means that 50 per cent of the votes are being decided by televoters and the remaining half - by the special expert jury. But because of technical problems in some countries, they were let using only expert juries' votes as final. Big favourites of the booking companies - France, Slovenia and Spain - showed a pretty decent result, although finished outside the Top 3. There's been controversy around the Swedish entry, due to it being similar to Belgian entry in 1996, Liefde is een kaartspel, that finished 16th in the contest.

The winners trio's member, Dave Benton, is the only black person, to-date, to have ever won the Eurovision Song Contest.
